PRCS Sindh and SMIU Collaborate on World Environment Day to Fight Plastic Pollution and Promote Sustainability

Celebration of World Environment Day

In celebration of World Environment Day, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Sindh Branch, under the CACRA (Climate Action and Community Resilience Approach) initiative, organized a powerful seminar in collaboration with Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU).

The event featured a keynote by Ms. Layba Siddiqui from Iverde Go Green Pakistan, who spoke on the theme “From Trash to Transformation: Sustainable Innovation in Action,” focusing on eco-friendly solutions and waste-to-resource strategies.

Ms. Sadia Tariq, Program Officer for Climate Smart Disaster Risk Management, shared insights into the CACRA program and highlighted the environmental initiatives undertaken by the PRCS Sindh Branch to build climate resilience in vulnerable communities.

Kanwar Waseem, Provincial Secretary of PRCS Sindh, underscored the critical role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in disaster response, climate adaptation, and environmental sustainability. He emphasized, “Behavioral change is key to driving environmental transformation,” urging students and youth to act as climate ambassadors and agents of change.

A significant moment of the event was the collective pledge by all participants to “Beat Plastic Pollution”, demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection and sustainable living practices.

The seminar concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PRCS and SMIU, paving the way for a long-term partnership to collaborate on climate action, environmental education, and community resilience.
