As part of the Global Climate Change Week celebrations, an engaging orientation session on “Climate Change and HealthProtecting Communities in a Warming World” was organized at the Khuwaja Mumtaz-ud-Din Haider Auditorium, Korangi Campus of Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC)

This impactful session was a collaborative initiative between the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Sindh Branch and the Karachi Center for Climate Change (K-CCC).

The event aimed to raise awareness among medical students about the health impacts of climate change and encourage the adoption of sustainable and climate-smart community practices.

The session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Atif Mahmood, Principal of JMDC, who emphasized the crucial role of healthcare professionals in mitigating and responding to the public health challenges posed by climate change.

The program featured an interactive talk on Climate Change by Ms. Sadia Tariq, Program Officer, Climate Smart Disaster Risk Management, who discussed the pressing environmental changes affecting Pakistan and their link to community resilience

The orientation successfully inspired students to integrate climate awareness and health adaptation strategies into their future medical practice, aligning with PRCS Sindh’s vision of building climate-resilient communities across the province.

A dedicated session on the Health Impacts of Climate Change was delivered by Dr. Hira Aftab, highlighting the increasing burden of heat-related illnesses, vector-borne diseases, and mental health concerns due to global warming.
